Is There More To Life Than This?

“Yet God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart; but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God’s work from beginning to end.”
Ecclesiastes 3:11

In this Sunday’s message, Pastor Kevin Myers asked: Is there more to life than this? Every human heart longs to know where we come from, why we’re here, and where we’re going. Solomon wrestled with this deeply. He had wisdom, wealth, and power, yet still confessed that life without God is hevel (a vapor).

The Problem: Broken Relationship

  • Humanity suffers from spiritual amnesia we forget who we are and whose we are.
  • The Fall (Genesis 3) shows how we trusted the serpent’s lies more than God’s voice.
  • Solomon declares, “Everything is meaningless” (Ecclesiastes 1:2). Life apart from God is like chasing vapor what looks substantial slips away.
  • We even use religion to tidy up life instead of relying on God Himself.

The Answer: Redeemed Relationship

  • God planted eternity in our hearts to draw us back to Him not to frustrate us, but to invite us.
  • To be made in His image means dignity, belonging, and value. Worshiping anything else diminishes us.
  • Before creation, there was already relationship: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (Genesis 1:1, 1:26; John 17:24).
  • Jesus redeems and restores this relationship. His life reveals life, redeems life, and satisfies life He is the bread of life.
  • True purpose isn’t something we can grasp; it’s Someone we can know.

Solomon’s Conclusion

  • “Fear God and obey his commands, for this is everyone’s duty.” (Ecclesiastes 12:13)
  • The fear of the Lord isn’t hiding from God but honoring Him with awe, reverence, and trust. It is the pathway to intimacy, friendship, wisdom, and life.

The Reminder: Spirit-Led Relationship

A Spirit-led life is marked by:

  • Present with God — choosing Him over distraction.
  • Accept God — worshiping Him as He is, not as we want Him to be.
  • Have Faith in God — trusting what we cannot see.
  • Honest with God — bringing Him your groans, doubts, and cries.
  • Stand with God — staying faithful, even in the fire.

Discussion Questions

  • What “big questions of life” have you wrestled with most deeply?
  • Where have you been chasing vapor, looking for meaning in possessions, pleasure, or status instead of turning to God?
  • How does knowing God planted eternity in your heart change the way you view your purpose?
  • What does redeemed relationship with God look like in your daily life right now?
  • Which of the Spirit-led practices (Present, Accept, Faith, Honest, Stand) do you need to lean into this week?
