“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life… Look at the birds of the air… See how the flowers of the field grow… But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”
Matthew 6:25–33
In this Sunday’s message, Pastor Dan invites us to trade anxiety for trust. In a city that runs on hurry and pressure, Jesus speaks a better word: You are seen, you are supplied, and you’re invited back to worship. Peace isn’t found in control, it’s found in the Father who already knows what you need.
God sees me
- Jesus’ claim (Matt. 6:26): “Look at the birds… your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?” The Father did not overlook the birds, therefore He doesn’t overlook you.
- Name the lie & replace it: Anxiety often comes from details we can’t control; Jesus answers by pointing to the Father who is in every single one of those details and in control of all things.
- Anxiety may be present, but “it doesn’t define you.” You’re “not weird, not alone.” Jesus has something to say about the anxiety you feel, starting with you are seen.
“Hand on your chest… breathe in, breathe out, and say out loud: ‘God sees me.’”
God will bless me
- (Matt. 6:28–30): “See how the flowers… not even Solomon… was dressed like one of these.” If God clothes fields that are “here today,” how much more will He clothe, cover, beautify, and color your life.
- God is not a “bread-and-water, barely-enough, discount” God. He is an above-and-beyond Father who delights to provide more than enough.
- Culture says rest comes after status, stuff, and followers; true settledness is being at peace with God, receiving His care rather than chasing the next summit.
I will worship Him
- Jesus’ command (Matt. 6:33): “But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness…”This is the way out of anxiety: worship reorders what’s first.
- Idol-swap diagnosis: We are “finely tuned worshiping machines.” If we’re not deliberate, work, money, or fame become functional gods.
- Whatever we worship tries to define, defend, delight, and direct us, then lets us down, fueling worry.
- Break the cycle: “Smash the idol… Seek God first. Worship Him most.” Worship and worry cannot coexist. If you do one, the other is destroyed.
Names declared over anxiety:
- Jehovah Jireh (provision silences money fear)
- Jehovah Rapha (the Healer steadies health fear)
- Jehovah Shalom (the God of peace quiets cultural chaos).
- Step forward for prayer; worship your way forward so that.
Discussion Questions
- Where does worry most show up for you right now—provision, health, relationships, or control?
- Which picture speaks to you today—birds (God sees/feeds) or lilies (God clothes/blesses)? Why?
- What would it look like to “seek first” this week (a concrete practice, time, or choice)?
