Yours, Not Mine

“Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name
Your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.”
Matthew 6:9-10

The Big Idea: My prayers are necessary to establish God’s kingdom and more will be done in my life.

  1. The Lord’s prayer helps us to prioritize what matters most
  • The kingdom of God is this the rule and reign of God by means of His people in the heavens and on earth.
  • We, as people of prayer, need to pray and pray earnestly that God’s rule and reign would continue to be evidenced in every city block.
  • The kingdom of God is not where our work is the most impactful, it is where the King is most present.

  1. His will is not forced
  • Prayer strengthens us to be able to lay down our lives instead of trying to control it.
  • “And he said to all, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.” - Luke 9.23

  1. The Lord’s prayer reminds us of the centrality of heaven
  • The idea of bringing earth looking like heaven results in earth being centered around the person of Jesus.
  • In Heaven, there’s no divided affections, no divided attention. Jesus gets all the praise and all the glory and all the honor
