From The Courtroom to The Table

“If you love me, keep my commands. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever—the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be  in you...All this I have spoken while still with you. But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you." John 14:15-17, 25-26

Through Jesus, we have moved from a courtroom of accusation to a table of belonging. The cross silenced every charge against us, and the Holy Spirit now lives within us, and by our side, as our Advocate, Helper, and Comforter. We are no longer defined by shame, but by the freedom of being fully known and deeply loved by God.

1. Accusation

The enemy’s role is to accuse, reminding us of our sin and failures and trying to convince us that we are disqualified. Many of us know what it feels like to carry shame and wonder if God could still want us. But accusation never gets the final word when God has spoken grace over our lives. (Zechariah 3:1-10)

2. Atonement

Jesus took responsibility for our sin and canceled the debt we could never repay. He did not ignore our guilt, He fully paid for it through His death on the cross. Because of His blood, the enemy no longer has a case against us. (Colossians 2:13-15)

3. Advocacy

Jesus gave us the Holy Spirit to be our Advocate, teaching us truth and helping us in our weakness. We are not left to defend ourselves or figure life out on our own. God’s presence now lives within us, guiding us into maturity and transformation. (Romans 8:26-34)

4. Freedom

We have not received a spirit of fear, but the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry, “Abba, Father.” We are no longer trying to earn our place with God, but living as sons and daughters who belong at His table. True freedom is found in knowing whose we are. (Romans 8:15-16, James 2:12-13)
